The search for a missing Breathitt County child came to a tragic end Tuesday afternoon.
According to Trooper Matt Gayheart with Kentucky State Police, the body of 10-year-old Jayden Spicer was recovered in a shallow grave in a wooded area off Canoe Road shortly after 3 p.m.
Kentucky State Police troopers confirmed at a press conference that Jayden Spicer’s mother, 33 year-old Felicia Gross, was charged with manslaughter, abuse of corpse, tampering with evidence and falsely reporting.
Gross was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
Kentucky State Police confirmed the body was sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
Jayden Spicer was last seen at his home on Panbowl Branch Road near Jackson in Breathitt County on August 5.
Police say they were told that Jayden went to bed but was missing the next morning.
Since his disappearance, numerous search crews have combed the woods and hilly areas, even using sonar underwater.
Kentucky State Police continues the investigation.
