GE Appliances made a huge announcement Wednesday about plans for its future.
The company announced a $3 billion investment over the next five years for its operations, workforce and communities. The money will increase production and modernize its 11 U.S. manufacturing plants. The first phase will begin at GE Appliances plants in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
Upon completion of this plan, GE Appliances will have invested $6.5 billion across its U.S. manufacturing plants and nationwide distribution network since 2016.
The company says this is their biggest investment since the park was built.
This $3 billion announcement marks the second-largest investment in GE Appliances’ history and that of the U.S. appliance industry – surpassed only by the creation of Appliance Park in the 1950s, the company’s global headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.
The company also unveiled a new mobile laundry unit. It will let families who are recovering from natural disasters like tornadoes have access to clean laundry quickly, and at no cost.
