Fire departments across Kentuckiana are rallying around a Marion County community after a serious crash just after 5 p.m. Friday.
According to the Marion County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), two firefighters with the Raywick Fire Department were “seriously injured” after a fire apparatus rolled over while on a run.
The early investigation showed that 51 year-old Brian Hatt, of Raywick, was responding to an assist call from the Loretto Fire Department.
The vehicle suddenly dropped off the right shoulder of the road, causing the edge of the road to collapse. Hatt lost control of the engine and crashed into the embankment below, causing an overturn.
Hatt was ejected from the vehicle, while his partner, 58 year-old Leonard Winkler was trapped.
Kentucky State Police confirms Hatt was flown to University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Winkler was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital with severe injuries.
