The Owensboro Fire Department reported one person has died after an apartment fire Thursday.
Officials say an apartment caught fire around midnight in the 3900 block of Evergreen Drive.
They say Owensboro Police Department arrived first and pulled a person out of the burning apartment.
As fire fighters worked to stop the fire from spreading to other units, the resident who was rescued was taken to the hospital then transferred to a specialized burn care unit in Louisville where they died from their injuries Friday.
No other injuries were reported.
The person’s name has not yet been released.
Neighbors say they smelled smoke and called the fire department.
Authorities say the fire remains under investigation.
