
The Kentucky State Police Post 4 and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife responded to a two-vehicle head on collision in Nelson County that resulted in a fatality.
On August 30, 2025, around 3:20 a.m. EDT, Kentucky State Police Post 4 received a call from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife to assist with the investigation of a fatal collision near the 6900 block of Bloomfield Road involving a pickup truck and a passenger car.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F-250, operated by 22 year-old Gavin Sims of Bardstown, was traveling on Bloomfield Road when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and struck a Ford Fusion, operated by 34 year-old John Cecil of Bloomfield. Cecil was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. Sims and several other passengers were transported to local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Nelson County Fire Department, Nelson County EMS, the Nelson County Road Department and the Nelson County Coroner’s Office assisted Kentucky State Police on scene. An autopsy and toxicology results have been requested and the investigation remains ongoing by a Kentucky State Police reconstructionist
