A senior at the University of Kentucky has been arrested in her infant’s death.
The Lexington Police arrested 21-year-old Laken Snelling on Sunday.
Snelling is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
According to her arrest citation, officers responded to a home in the 400 block of Park Avenue around 10:30 a.m. on August 27 after the baby was found unresponsive in a closet.
Police discovered infant’s body wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag, according to the citation.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has not released the infant’s cause of death, however police said Snelling was the child’s mother.
UK spokesperson Jay Blanton confirmed Snelling is a senior at the school and member of the university’s Stunt Team.
Snelling is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center. Her arraignment is set for Tuesday, September 2.
