Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency in response to a potential lapse in SNAP benefits.
In an executive order signed Friday, October 31, Governor Beshear directed an initial $5 million, sourced from the budget reserve trust fund, be disbursed to Feeding Kentucky food banks.
Feeding Kentucky’s food banks provide food and groceries in all 120 counties, and reach an estimated one in seven Kentuckians annually, according to a press release from Governor Beshear’s office.
The press release said the allocation of funds is meant to “ensure Kentuckians have access to food over the next few days.”
