A mother has pleaded guilty in the drowning death of her child that happened back in January.
Amber Winstead pleaded guilty on Friday to manslaughter, and faces up to seven years in prison, according to court documents.
Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a motel on Airport Hotel Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. on January 1. When police arrived, they entered one of the rooms and found a baby, believed to be about 3 months old, who had drowned in a bathtub.
According to Winstead’s arrest citation, she used narcotics prior to getting into the bathtub with the child.
While officers were on the scene, she admitted to taking a bath with the child and then another person woke her up hours later, but the baby had already submerged in the tub and drowned, according to the citation.
