A man is in the hospital after being shot in Valley Station on Saturday, November 1.
According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a call around 8:23 p.m. of a shooting in the 5400 block of Valley Station Road.
At the scene, police found a man outside the address with a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to UofL Hospital by EMS and is expected to survive.
Matthew Tarrance, 29, was arrested in connection to the shooting and charged with first-degree assault.
Court documents show police obtained surveillance video from Valley Liquors that shows what led up to the shooting.
That footage allegedly shows the victim standing outside on the sidewalk in front of the liquor store when Tarrance walks out of the store and gets into his car, during which video captures what appears to be a conversation between them, but no audio was recorded.
Video then shows the victim appearing to throw a cigarette butt on Tarrance’s car, and Tarrance gets out of his vehicle, picks up the butt, and throws it back at the victim, according to the arrest citation. More words appear to be exchanged before Tarrance allegedly pulls out a handgun, walks towards the victim, and fires at least two shots into the victim’s stomach area.
Police said Tarrance then left the scene and drove to Valley Dairy Preeze, where he called the police and said he shot someone in self-defense.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, Tarrance’s 6-year-old daughter was also in the car but was picked up before officers arrived.
Tarrance is expected to appear in court for arraignment on Monday, November 3.
