A routine response to a domestic assault call over the weekend led to the arrest of a Bowling Green man on numerous charges.
On November 1, Bowling Green Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Cherokee Drive after a report of a domestic assault. The suspect, identified as 60-year-old Joseph Coghill of Bowling Green, had already fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
While officers were actively searching for Coghill, a new call came in reporting a burglary in progress in the 800 block of College Street. The description provided by the caller matched that of Coghill. Upon arrival, officers located him near the building, visibly injured from forcing entry through the front door.
That is when officers discovered a bag in the bed of Coghill’s truck. At the request of the domestic assault victim, a search of the bag was conducted for weapons. This search yielded a significant quantity of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.
Further statements from the victim prompted officers to get a search warrant for Coghill’s residence. The subsequent search uncovered a sophisticated homemade psychedelic mushroom grow operation, a substantial amount of cash, and multiple firearms with accompanying ammunition.
Coghill was taken into custody and faces charges of Burglary, 3rd Degree; Trafficking in Marijuana, 1st Offense; Trafficking in Controlled Substances, 2nd Degree, 1st Offense; Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree; Assault, 4th Degree (Domestic Violence) – Minor Injury and Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess.
He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 7.
The Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force provided crucial assistance in this complex case. The investigation remains ongoing.
