A 20 year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with robbery after a DoorDash driver was robbed at gunpoint while making a delivery.
Jorein Thomas was arrested just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, and is charged with first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence after police say he stole $126.08 worth of Papa John’s pizza from a delivery driver.
According to the arrest report, Louisville Police responded to a call of an armed robbery in the 9800 block of Turnpike View Drive. Officers arrived and talked to a woman who said she was a DoorDash driver making a delivery to the house when a man walked around the side of the building, pointed a gun at her and told her to drop the pizza.
After she dropped her bag with the pizzas in them, the man took it and fled in the same direction he had come from. Officers got video from the resident’s Ring doorbell that corroborated the driver’s statements.
During a search of the area, an officer saw a man, Thomas, bent over in the backseat of a vehicle. When officers talked to him, they saw a stack of Papa John’s pizza boxes in the backseat next to Thomas. When officers told him to exit the vehicle, they saw a handgun on the floorboard of the backseat.
After being detained and Mirandized, Thomas admitted to being in the bushes next to the delivery location, showing the driver his gun and telling her to give him the pizza. He said “at least a woman was not shot,” and that “a young, Black man had to do what he had to do to eat.”
Officers found the driver’s delivery bags inside a dumpster on Lana Court.
Thomas was in court Friday morning.
