A suspect is dead following a police pursuit in Franklin County early Saturday.
Kentucky State Police said troopers from Post 7 in Richmond were dispatched to locate a man believed to be involved in a Georgia homicide.
Police located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle, a gray Honda Civic.
The suspect didn’t stop, fleeing northbound on I-75 and reaching speeds more than 100 miles per hour.
The pursuit continued west on I-64 entering Franklin County, about an hour east of Louisville. Troopers from Post 12 were able to catch up with the suspect and they tried stopping him using tire deflation devices.
The suspect lost control of his vehicle near the 50-mile marker, crossing the median and striking another vehicle heading eastbound. The suspect was pronounced dead by the Franklin County Coroner and has not been identified.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
