A Jefferson County Judge has dismissed a murder charge against Nathan Short, ruling he is immune from prosecution.
Nathan Short was charged with murder after shooting Nicholas Wedding in May 2024 at a home in the 3500-block of Versaille Lane. Officers arrived and found Wedding shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but later died while in surgery.
Short’s lawyer argued he was defending a woman Wedding was living with, and was justified shooting Wedding.
His defense lawyer said the woman came home and found Nicholas Wedding in their bed with someone else.
A fight broke out and the woman ran to her bedroom to barricade herself in after Wedding threatened her.
Wedding followed her up the stairs, which is when Short shot him. The judge ruled that Short was defending the woman from harm, which is allowed by law.
