According to Kentucky State Police Post 15, troopers were called to a residence on KY 55 South around 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, following a report of a shooting. Troopers and detectives responded alongside the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.
At the scene, officers found 33-year-old Jordan Hadley of Columbia suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to TJ Sampson Hospital, where he later died. The Adair County Coroner pronounced him deceased.
Investigators say Jordan Hadley and his father, 56-year-old Phillip Bruce Hadley of Columbia, were involved in a heated altercation prior to the shooting.
According to police, Phillip Hadley told investigators there had been an ongoing conflict between the two.
Phillip Hadley told police his son shoved him multiple times and verbally threatened him, saying, “This is going to end today.” He said after being shoved twice and as his son approached him again, Phillip Hadley pulled a .40-caliber handgun from his waistband and fired, striking his son.
Phillip Hadley told investigators he believed his son was reaching for a handgun, though he said he never actually saw one.
According to a citation, Phillip Hadley’s mother witnessed the altercation and the shooting, which occurred in her backyard.
Phillip Bruce Hadley was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held in the Adair County Detention Center without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
