Meade County School Board heard a 2014-2015 audit report from Gilbert Brown, of the audit firm Brown and Company, at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening. Brown commended the entire staff on a very clean audit that consists of 4 main components. He said this is the fifth year his company has done the audit and everything he has suggested in the past has been implemented and he has no discrepancies to report.
Finance Officer Susan Fackler noted the audit will be done by a different firm next year. The state strongly recommends to change auditor firms at least very five years.
A representative for Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects of Lexington gave about a 50 minute presentation of a schematic design for the Meade County Area Technology Center renovation and addition project. The proposed project would consist of about 38,000 square feet and would cost just under $12.1 million. After seeing the schematic design and hearing the explanation, the board unanimously voted to move forward with the BG1. Bids for the projects could be accepted as early as March of 2016 and the construction starting in the spring with the expectation of being ready for classes beginning in the fall of 2017.
The board also approved to advertise for bids on repairing the window and soffit at the James R. Allen Freshman Academy and updating the bathroom and shower at the high school wrestling room.
