A deadly house fire claimed the life of a man and his dog early Friday (01/01) morning in southwestern Jefferson County.
The fire in the 5800 block of Pendleton Road was reported at 3:19 a.m.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 61-year-old James Rockford Tucker and said he died of apparent smoke inhalation. The victim’s son said his father went by the name Rocky.
Firefighters found the house engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. Major Roger Milliner with the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire District said the flames shot through the house to power lines outside, which caused a transformer to blow.
Milliner said it took about 15 minutes to contain the fire.
Tucker is believed to have lived alone in the house.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
