Authorities in Muhlenberg County are continuing to investigate the scene where possible human remains were found Monday night (5/23).
Muhlenberg County Sheriff Curtis McGehee said he was notified of the discovery at 7 pm CDT by Scott Heltsley with the Jodi Powers Search and Rescue Team. Officials began the investigation at first light Tuesday (5/24) morning.
Muhlenberg County deputies and the state medical examiner combed the area via all-terrain vehicles about a mile off rural Drake Schoolhouse Road, where the remains were discovered. Muhlenberg County Coroner Tony Armour said the state medical examiner could access dental records to determine an identity.
McGehee and Muhlenberg Emergency Management officials have been searching the area since Justin Holland was reported missing in late March. His abandoned vehicle was discovered along Drake Schoolhouse Road about a half mile from where the possible human remains were found last night.
Officials could not speculate on the identity of the remains, and the sheriff said they have not found any evidence to indicate foul play at this time. The remains will be sent to Louisville for analysis.
