A community announcement in Meade County will have a major impact on the future workforce and education in the small North Central Kentucky community.
On Thursday (6/2) officials with Meade County Schools and Elizabethtown Community and Technical College formally announced a newly forged partnership that create a unique and expanded educational experience for future students. Dr. John Millay, Superintendent of Meade County Schools said the newly announced renovation project at the Meade County Area Technology Center along with a new partnership with the ECTC will offer 26 career paths that will allow college and career readiness as students work their way through high school.
Earlier this year, the Meade County Board of Education announced a $14 million renovation project at the Area Technology Center which will be the first major project of it’s kind since the facility was built in 1975. The renovation will include the addition of 40,000 square feet of space and a redesigned parking area which will house state of the art instructional areas for the career pathway programs and college level classes. The new space will allow a permanent home for Adult Education Classes in Meade County.
Dr. Thelma White, ECTC President said the design of the programs will allow a smooth and transition to college and ultimately high demand, high wage jobs for students. She added the expansion of educational and career options will contribute greatly to the economic development in Meade County.
Dr. Millay said that students and parents will be receiving more information about the career pathway options during the upcoming school year. Most of the pathways will be closely aligned to course offered by ECTC.
Construction on the Area Technology Center is expected to be completed by August 2017.
