
The Meade County School Board met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (08/09) evening.
Superintendent Dr. John Millay told the board opening day for the entire district staff went well Monday (8/08) and the district focus for this school year is “Legacy” as they look back on the accomplishments of the past and look forward to the new year ahead. The district has 305 classified, 309 certified and 147 substitutes/part-time/others making a total of 761 employees district wide. The projected starting enrollment is 4,898 students.
The bid opening for the Area Technical Center has been moved from August 4th to August 18th upon recommendation of the architect. A special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th, to discuss and consider the bids. If a bid is approved the board possibly could approve bonding for the project and update any necessary documents for the Kentucky Department of Education.
Several contracts were approved by the board, including Iris Stull as Physical Therapist; Lorinda Jones & Associates for Music Therapy; South Central Indiana Interpreting; Debra Childers, Edie Pace, Nichole Tanner, Jorday Warford, Mallory Wathen and Cassy Williams as School Nurses; Mazanec, Rasking & Ryder Company, L.P.A. for Special Education Services and a contract with Kentucky Autism Training Center for the 2016-2017 school year.
Three bids were received to pave a drive and parking at top of the hill along the edge of the football field at the Stuart Pepper Middle School. The board unanimously approved the bid from Striegel Ashpalt Company for the sum of $37,383.00. The other two bids were well over $40,000. Dr. Millay said with the approval of the bid, the three day project should be complete by the end of the month weather permitting.
The Motor Vehicle and Watercraft Tax Rate for 2017 will remain the same as it was in 2016.
A Special Board Meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, to conduct the business of the regular scheduled meeting planned for Tuesday, September 13.
