A former eastern Kentucky sheriff has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly stealing money from a drug investigation fund used to make undercover purchases.
Former Harlan County Sheriff Marvin Lipfird is also accused of using a county-provided credit card for an array of personal expenses, including food, alcohol, hotel rooms and a subscription to a dating service.
Federal prosecutors say Lipfird is accused of stealing about $25,000 between 2011 and 2013.
Prosecutors said Lipfird was indicted Thursday on two felony charges.
The ex-lawman faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
Lipford lost his re-election bid in 2014.
He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on November 17.
