
An investigation remains ongoing of the circumstances related to the death of a Meade County Road Department employee.
According to Kentucky State Police, the accident happened around 12 Noon Tuesday (12/13), as county road crews were working along Robbins Drive near Fort Knox. A 2013 International Dump truck operated by 60 year-old Gene Smallwood, was facing East, when it was backing up the north side of the roadway. Another Road Department employee, 62 year-old Pius E. Hobbs of Flaherty, was on the north side of the truck, when he was struck and ran over by the dump truck. Hobbs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County Coroner’s office.
Kentucky State Police and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and other agencies are working to determine how the incident happened. State Police was assisted at the scene by the Meade County Sheriff’s Department, Flaherty Fire Department and Meade County EMS. No other details have been made available as the investigation continues.
