After a year break, River Fest regained its success as the annual fall festival in Brandenburg and gained a renewed breathe of life by the Meade County Arts Council.
The event is the only annual fall festival held in Brandenburg and is nestled in the scenic River Front Park which is a canvas of autumn season. This year’s festival is a glimpse of the redevelopment of efforts by the Meade County Arts Council as they work to bring a diverse art scene to the local community.
The 2017 River Fest featured day of events that included 15 vendors, a hay maze, soap box derby, kids activities and educational displays of local history along with live music by local artists. Among the community partners who provided major contributions to the day included the Meade County Homemakers, who provided the annual pumpkin and scare crow contests, a duck pond, and baked goods. Meade County Historical Archeological Preservation Society, known as MCHAPS unveiled and dedicated a new historical marker to Big Joe Logsdon and assisted with the educational sessions about the history of Buttermilk Falls. Other community partners included the Buttermilk Falls Trail Committee, Fort Knox Family Moral, Welfare, and Recreation, Meade County Tourism, Meade County Fiscal Court and the City of Brandenburg.
The Meade County Arts Council wants families and people of all ages to enjoy the event and are working to add to the diversity of community in a family friendly atmosphere. New additions to the annual event included several community art projects such as a kids splatter paint wall, logo puzzle painting, mandala rock painting, and the community Christmas Card. A beer and wine garden allowed adults in attendance to sample the taste of local breweries.
Organizers believe that the new direction will help bring visitors to the Riverfront to enjoy the natural park and showcase the local history which is the heritage of our community. Attendance to the event was slightly impacted due to the factors of the year break and a different weekend to help bring the event into the fall season. The adjustments were figured into the planning as organizers believe the event will continue to grow as the local art scene begins to evolve into a bigger scene in the community.
The Meade County Arts Council is currently looking to meet more local artisans and musicians who have a interested in helping with the development of the local scene. The Meade County Arts Council is a non profit organization which is made up of local volunteers which organize several public events during the year to help enrich the community with arts. Several opportunities are open for local residents to get involved with the Meade County Arts Council by volunteering, or by tax deducible donations. Most events are funded by sponsorships and community contributions. For more information about the Meade County Arts Council visit their website at www.meadarts.com or on Facebook.
