Soldiers from Fort Knox paid tribute to President Zachary Taylor at a wreath-laying ceremony at the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville on Wednesday.
Each year, a U.S. military general or flag officer lays a wreath that is provided by the White House at the grave site of each deceased former U.S. president on the anniversary of their respective births. Brigadier General Rodney Faulk, commander of the 84th Training Command’s Atlantic Division hosted this year’s ceremony, along with an honor guard from his unit assisted with the wreath laying.
Taylor, the nation’s 12th president, grew up in Louisville before joining the Army in 1808. He was sworn into office in 1849 and served as president for 16 months before his death in 1850.
