
Meade County and the surrounding area is mourning the loss of a local businessman who impacted the area far beyond the walls of his local business.
Raymond H. Cottrell, Sr, died Monday (2/5) in a Louisville hospital after medical complications. Cottrell founded Ray’s Ford in Brandenburg in 1977 and was a supporter of various local community projects and charities throughout the years. He was influential in local politics and in the state and regional automobile industry. Cottrell was recently recognized for his years in the industry. Before beginning his own business, Cottrell served our nation in Army with the rank of Command Sergeant Major with several medals of valor for his actions during his service.
Local leaders issued several proclamations of honor that were presented to the family during the time of visitation Thursday (2/8) night. State Representative Jeff Greer presented a tribute which was read on the floor of the State House of Representatives in Frankfort. Brandenburg Mayor Ronnie Joyner provided resolution on behalf of the City of Brandenburg honoring Cottrell for his many years of dedication and service to our country and community through various donations, business, and accomplishments.
Meade County Judge Executive Gerry Lynn issued an Executive Order on Thursday honoring Cottrell for his dedication to the county and nation. Judge Executive Lynn ordered all flags to be lowered to half staff from sunrise until sunset on February 9 during the funeral and burial in honor of Raymond H. Cottrell, Sr., who will never be forgotten by the community that he loved.
