Members of Meade County Fiscal Court held their first ever virtual meeting during their regular business session on Tuesday (4/14) evening.
The meeting was lived streamed via the county website and WVIH.com as Judge Executive Gerry Lynn conducted the meeting from the Courtroom of the courthouse. Lynn was joined by the County Treasurer Tammy Weick, County Attorney Jessica Roberts, Sheriff Phillip Wimpee, and Jailer J.J. Scarborough. All of the magistrates attended the meeting via Zoom meeting conference and was displayed on a projection screen in the room.
Judge Lynn began the meeting with a thanks to Nucor Brandenburg for sizable donation of personal protective equipment for the county’s emergency services to help protect first responders from COVID19. Currently, Meade County has two active cases, with one person recovered and has noted one death due to COVID19.
The court voted approving a bid of $201,040 from Harp Enterprises for new voting machines for the Meade County Board of Elections. They also noted the proposed budget and food bid for the Detention Center. Jailer Scarborough said no changes were being made with the food purchases. He said that the bid was part of the protocols to meet state standards due to the amount spent on annual food purchases for the jail.
Magistrates approved Travis Scott and Mike Greenwell to Ekron Fire Protection District and tabled a replacement from the Third District on the Ethics Commission. County leaders approved a interlocal agreement with the Meade County Water District related to use and space agreements for radio equipment and antennas on the water towers in Garrett and Payneville. The county has radio repeaters at each site and the agreement would allow the water district to locate and use space in the equipment sheds and generators for their use.
Fiscal Court approved a single bid for Road Salt from Compass Materials. They also approved the road name change on Private Lane to Steve’s Way along Highway 313 in Flaherty. Four bids were opened during the meeting related to new roll off containers for Solid Waste & Recycling. After review of the different documents, Magistrates approved Judge Lynn to compile a spreadsheet of each bid for Magistrates to review for a future purchase vote. At the recommendation of Judge Executive Lynn, the court voted in favor of naming Ricky Sturgeon as Solid Waste Coordinator.
