
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through their regular monthly business during a special called meeting with out public attendance due to COVID-19 Tuesday (12/8). night. The meeting is a reminder of the seriousness of public health safety during the pandemic. The meeting was streamed live on the county’s website and WVIH.com.
The court approved rezoning request presented by the Planning and Zoning. They also reviewed inspector bids and approved Allison W Thomas at the county building and HVAC inspector and renewed a contract with David Veirs as the county electrical inspector. The court approved the proposed 2021 sheriff’s budget of $1,670,788. Magistrates approved the second reading of budget amendment of $768.00 to the current year budget.
The court approved the 2021 Holiday schedule to match most of the Administrative office of the Court and President’s Day on February 15. They approved resolutions related to efforts across the state to push state legislators to make reforms to the state fuel and road tax system which funds county road funds for maintenance issues in each county. They also approved a resolution in support of the City of Brandenburg’s new waste water treatment plant.
Fiscal court approved the seeking bids for a new pickup truck for the Parks and Recreation Department which was already budgeted.
The court discussed updates related to efforts to relocate a new grain facility in the county. Third District Magistrate Billy Sipes and Judge Executive Leslie Stith said that discussions have been encouraging and at least one company is extremely interested in the possibility. He said the issue to determine a site for such a facility which would be at least a 12 acres site that would be similar to the former Riverport facility. Sipes said that meetings with the farmer haven’t been able to take place due to gathering restrictions due to the pandemic, but their input from previous meetings and comments are involved in the current discussions. If planned meetings go well to designate a location for the feasibility study, a company could be committed by the end of the year. Officials are cautiously optimistic on the situation and also express that it is a long process to get a grain elevator back in business in the county.
