The Ekron Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.
Fire Sergeant Richard Givan died Monday (4/8) afternoon while working with his fellow fire fighters at the Ekron Fire Department. During a lunch break, Givan experienced a medical emergency. Fellow firemen rushed to his aide and was with him when he passed. Sergeant Givan dedicated many years to the Ekron Fire and Rescue Department as a volunteer. His bravery and commitment to helping others were unparalleled. Richard’s passion for mentorship and leadership extended beyond his role as a firefighter; he was also a beloved troop leader for the Boy Scouts.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 3 PM Sunday (4/14) at the Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Meade County Judge Executive Troy Kok issued an executive order Friday (4/12) afternoon declaring all flags be lowered to half staff until sunset on Sunday (4/14) in honor of Sergeant Givan.
