
A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration’s U.S. Department of Agriculture from accessing personal data of Kentuckians enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Governor Andy Beshear joined the lawsuit brought by 21 attorneys’ generals challenging the USDA’s demand that states turn over private information of SNAP beneficiaries.
The USDA warned states in July that failing to turn over information on enrollees in the federal food assistance program, SNAP funding would be cut.
Many states feared the data would be used to aid in mass deportations.
U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney issued a temporary restraining order against the U.S.D.A. on Thursday but said a hearing would be held in October to determine whether a long-term prohibition is necessary.
