The city of Vine Grove is stepping up surveillance at a local park over repeated issues with vandalism.
According to city leaders, vandals keep targeting Optimist Park and leaving damage behind.
The damage includes cars doing donuts in the grass, bathrooms being vandalized, playground equipment being damaged and kids entering the splash pad when it’s closed.
City officials said anyone caught destroying city property will face charges for vandalism and will be banned from the park.
City officials approved the purchase of new Flock cameras to cover the park. They will give a 360-degree view and can track the license plates of cars entering the park.
Vine Grove Mayor Pam Ogden said if something happens and you come in the park at four in the morning, that Flock camera is going to notify the police and the police are going to come to investigate.
City leaders are asking parents to talk to their kids about respecting city property, and make sure they don’t go to the park, which is only open during daylight hours, unsupervised.
Community members who see any vandalism or unsafe behavior are encouraged to report it to police by calling 270-877-2252.
