
A motorcyclist was found dead hours after crashing near the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) early Thursday morning.
Louisville Metro Police Department said it received a report of a person down in a grassy area between I-264 East and the Crittenden Drive exit around 10:30 a.m.
Officers found the man in a grassy area on the other side of a guardrail. Police said he was wearing motorcycle gear including a helmet.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, investigators learned that airport police found an unoccupied motorcycle in a ditch line near Airport Road and Terminal Drive around 6 a.m.
The airport officers searched the area for the motorcyclist, but couldn’t find anyone. The motorcycle was then impounded.
Louisville Metro Police Department said as part of the airport’s investigation, they reviewed security video and noticed a motorcyclist who was driving on I-264 East at a high rate of speed just before 6 a.m. Police said the video showed the motorcyclist try to take an exit ramp from Crittenden Drive and the airport when he lost control and was ejected off the bike, landing in a grassy area.
LMPD Traffic Unit has assumed control of the investigation.
