Two Louisville police officers and a driver of another vehicle were seriously injured in a crash Friday evening, according to officials.
Louisville Metro Police Department said around 10:15 p.m. on December 19, two officers responded to the report of a stranded motorist on Newburg Road at Abernathy Road. Both officers were standing outside their vehicle, which had its police lights on, checking on the stranded vehicle, when another car ran into the back of the police cruiser.
Both officers and the driver of the car that hit the cruiser were taken to UofL Hospital with injuries that were described as serious but non-life-threatening.
Police said their preliminary report indicated that the driver who hit the officers may have been intoxicated, but they are still awaiting test results to confirm.
LMPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating.
