A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in Okolona Monday evening.
Louisville Metro Police officers were dispatched to the 7300 block of Preston Highway near Minor Lane around 5:15 p.m.
According to their preliminary investigation, Louisville Metro Police Department said two men were in the process of crossing Preston Highway in a poorly lit section of the roadway. Both men made it across to the center median, a turning lane, when one of them may have stepped back into the road and was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Preston Highway in the left hand lane.
Police said the driver immediately stopped after the collision and called for help and stayed at the scene.
EMS arrived and began helping the man, transporting him to UofL Hospital where he died a short time later from his injuries. His identity is not known.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The other man was not injured.
Police say no charges are expected to be filed and the Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
