A Bowling Green man is facing several felony charges after police say he was found with a stolen firearm and a stolen vehicle in Muhlenberg County.
According to a citation, authorities with Kentucky State Police were contacted about a man seen walking through a truck lot on Reid Travis Highway. Officers found the suspect inside the cab of a semi-truck.
The man was identified as 33 year-old Arlexis Kawai, of Bowling Green.
During the encounter, police say a pistol was visible on the man’s waistband. He was taken into custody at the scene. Officers later confirmed a nearby vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, at the lot had been reported stolen from Logan County.
A search of Kawai and the semi reportedly turned up various personal items, including a checkbook, credit card, keys, gloves, and a bandana.
Officers contacted the registered owner of the stolen vehicle, who confirmed it had been stolen earlier that day.
The owner said the suspect matched the description of someone they had confronted while allegedly attempting to break into their vehicle.
Officers later obtained a photo allegedly showing the suspect in the Silverado near a Beechmont gas station.
Court records indicate the man previously pleaded guilty to multiple felonies.
Kawai is charged with criminal trespassing, attempted theft by unlawful taking of a vehicle valued between $10,000 and $1 million, receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more), receiving stolen property (firearm), and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The stolen truck was returned to its registered owner at the scene.
