A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Nelson County, according to Kentucky State Police.
Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) responded to a request at around 1:17 p.m. by Post 4 in Elizabethtown to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, January 7.
Police say that an employee from the Nelson County Humane Society called 911 after 80-year-old Norman Perkins of New Haven became disorderly inside the building and threatened them with a gun.
Perkins then left the scene and drove north on US 31E toward Bardstown.
Shortly after, officers found Perkins driving east on Bloomfield Road, leading officers to initiate a traffic stop.
The suspect refused to yield until they eventually pulled over in the parking lot of the Speedy Mart located at 603 Bloomfield Road.
As officers attempted to make contact with Perkins, he raised and pointed a gun at them, prompting the two deputies to fire their weapons at him.
Despite attempts at first aid, Perkins was declared dead at the scene.
No officers were injured.
