President Donald Trump has approved an emergency disaster declaration as Winter Storm Fern begins battering Kentucky.
The news comes a day after Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency as the weekend snowstorm is expected to dump more than a foot of snow in some areas while others in southern Kentucky counties will see sleet and ice.
The entire state is under a Winter Storm Warning until Monday.
Beshear also announced the Kentucky National Guard will respond to the severe weather, stating members will make rounds in local communities to check on the public.
The storm has the potential to cause dangerous conditions across the state including on roads and some power outages.
