Roughly 5,000 people were left without power in the midst of this weekend’s winter storm after a group of foil balloons was released in a Louisville neighborhood.
According to LG&E, the balloons came into contact with power lines, causing the outage.
LG&E is asking customers to refrain from releasing balloons to avoid further outages.
“Foil balloons conduct electricity and can cause power outages, fires, and injuries if they come into contact with power lines,” the company posted on its social media.
Power was restored to those affected about an hour after the incident.
