As road conditions improve in some areas, people are trying to get out, but officials say it is imperative that drivers clean off their cars completely.
Police say drivers should clear front and rear windows, side windows and mirrors for safety. They should also make sure headlights aren’t dim because of icing and snow.
License plates should also be visible, and drivers need to clean off their roofs. A couple of things can happen with that. Number one, you can stop and it break loose and fall over your windshield and obstruct your view or it can fly off and hit something else and cause an accident or cause damage.
While cleaning off cars, drivers shouldn’t force doors open if they are iced over and should never throw hot water on windows. It is advised to start your car and get the heat and the defrost going to help with the scrapping.
It is also a good idea to make sure your tires have proper pressure. Make sure you have adequate fluids, antifreeze and your windshield wash. Your battery loses about a third of the power when it gets down to freezing.
