A woman is facing charges of wanton endangerment and criminal mischief after firing shots in a hospital room at a St. Matthew’s hospital Wednesday morning.
St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said they received the call around 5:30 a.m. of a shots fired run. With the number of calls received, he said it was upgraded to an active shooter incident, which he believes led to confusion. It was not an active shooter incident but was isolated to one room.
According to Wilkerson, a patient, Mystic Rayne of Frankfort, was confined to her bed and fired four shots in her room. Wilkerson said he doesn’t believe the shots were fired at anybody, but out the window and into the ceiling.
No injuries were reported and Wilkerson said the patient gave up without incident after a St. Matthews Police negotiator and LMPD SWAT team intervened.
Wilkerson said that the patient was airlifted to the hospital and was a direct admit to the sixth floor.
Rayne is facing charges of wanton endangerment and criminal mischief, both 1st degree. She remains in the hospital receiving medical treatment.
