The U.S Department of War announced Monday morning that a Kentucky soldier died while supporting Operation Epic Fury in Iran.
The soldier, identified as 26 year-old Sergeant Benjamin Pennington of Glendale, died Sunday from injuries sustained on a March 1 attack at the Prince Sultan Air Base.
The Army did not say what he was doing when he was injured, other than he had been serving with the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade since 2025.
Sgt. Pennington is a 2017 graduate of Central Hardin High School. He was also enrolled in the Hardin County Schools Automotive Technology Pathway at the Hardin County Schools Early College and Career Center.
Pennington is the eighth combat death and the ninth casualty of a serviceman or woman since February 28.
