
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is now investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday, April 2, around 5 p.m. in Crittenden County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that officers from the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, along with staff from the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services, responded to the scene in the 2800 block of KY 365, to serve emergency guardianship paperwork.
During the incident, shots were fired with the suspect, 60-year-old Ronnie Phillips, who was fatally wounded.
Crittenden County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Coyle was struck by gunfire from the suspect and airlifted to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville where he remains in critical condition
A female victim was safely removed from the residence. No other injuries were reported.
Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Police Department, Crittenden County EMS and Crittenden County Coroner’s Office.
Community members gathered Friday night for a prayer vigil for Deputy Coyle.
Authorities say this is an ongoing investigation.
