
Elizabethtown Police are investigating the theft of three historic bronze plaques taken from the former Hardin County Courthouse.
Police said the plaques were stolen from the building at 100 Public Square and that the theft likely happened between March 18 and March 24, 2026. The investigation began March 31.
The stolen items include a 1933 Hardin County Courthouse dedication plaque and two 1955 Hardin County Historical Society plaques commemorating President Abraham Lincoln and President James Buchanan, according to police. Officials said all three are cast bronze with ornamental corner rosettes and have historical value to the community.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elizabethtown Police Department at 270-765-4125. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Hardin County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-597-8123 or p3tips.com. Crime Stoppers said tips that lead to recovery of the plaques or the identification of a suspect may be eligible for a cash reward.
Police said they are also willing to help facilitate an anonymous return of the plaques.
