
A 45-year-old man is in custody after a 15-year-old was stabbed near Waterfront Park shortly after Thunder Over Louisville.
Officers responded to a call around 10:21 p.m. of a stabbing in the area of North Floyd Street and East Whitherspoon Street on Saturday, April 18.
At the scene, police found a 15-year-old boy with a stab wound from an altercation. The victim was taken to UofL Hospital, where he is expected to survive.
According to arrest citations, 45-year-old Vasilis Sakellardis was pointed out to officers as they approached the scene by witnesses, as he was seen running away from the scene with a knife in his hand.
Sakellardis is said to have then dropped the knife while fleeing before being detained by police.
Arrest documents state that the officers found homemade brass knuckles on the suspect’s right hand. He is also said to have been extremely intoxicated and acted belligerently towards EMS and refused treatment.
Witness statements identified Sakellardis as the man who stabbed the teenager.
Sakellaridis is being charged with assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and fleeing police.
His arraignment is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at 9 a.m.
