A Louisville man charged in a crash that injured two people, including a Kentucky State Police trooper, appeared in court for the first time on Thursday.
David Huggins, 33, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, and two counts of assault.
He was arraigned Thursday morning, pleading not guilty to his charges. A judge set his bond at $25,000.
On Wednesday, Kentucky State Police said Huggins crashed into a black truck while driving south on the 15000 block of Dixie Highway.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Lukas Jones, who was driving north on Dixie Highway, then crashed into the side of the black truck.
Jones and the driver of the black truck were both taken to the University of Louisville Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Huggins then fled the scene toward Radcliff, but was arrested a short time later in Vine Grove.
According to his arrest citation, Huggins told police he did not stop because he wanted to “get his sick girlfriend home.”
He also admitted to taking kratom prior to the crash, the citation added.
Huggins is expected back in court on May 8 at 9 a.m.
