Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that Ford plans to invest an additional $2 billion to the former BlueOval SK facilities in Hardin County during his Team Kentucky Update on Thursday.
In December 2025, Ford announced it was ending its joint venture with SK On for their U.S. battery factories due to changes in public policy related to the electric vehicle industry, trade policy issues and changing dynamics in the marketplace. During this time, the company announced it would lay off 1,600 workers.
A company spokesperson at Ford said the company was planning to assist employees impacted by the transition, saying all of those who were laid off will have the “opportunity to apply” for those new jobs.
During Thursday’s announcement, Beshear said the new investment would create at least 2,100 full-time jobs to manufacture energy storage systems in Hardin County, and that Ford agreed to the updated terms.
