The Kentucky Department of Corrections fired two prison guards and suspended another after an inmate complained he was assaulted by guards.
An inmate at Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville wrote to Corrections Commissioner Cookie Crews in late March alleging that on February 25, 2026 Lt. Raymond Marzilli grabbed his head and rammed it into a wall while the inmate was handcuffed and it busted his face open.
The day after the incident the inmate was notified he had been charged with assaulting a corrections officer, and that when he complained, he was ordered to strip naked for a search.
The inmate said there was camera footage of the alleged assault and Crews referred the inmate’s letter to the department’s internal affairs staff.
After conducting interviews and reviewing security video, the internal affairs staff determined proper procedure had not been followed.
Marzilli and Capt. Adam Noles were fired for violating policies on the use of force and mechanical restraints and Sgt. Lucas Stahl was suspended for failing to report the incident.
