More than a dozen people have been displaced after a large fire at a Jeffersontown apartment complex on Monday.
Crews with Fern Creek Fire & EMS and the Jeffersontown Fire Department were dispatched to the 9000 block of Michael Edward Drive around 9:45 a.m.
When crews arrived on scene, they saw heavy fire coming out of the second and third floor windows of a 3-story apartment complex.
Officials said five people had to be rescued from the burning building.
Three people, including two firefighters, were also transported to nearby hospitals for injuries. All three were expected to survive.
It took roughly 25 firefighters about 30 minutes to control the fire.
Three units in the building suffered heavy damage and several other apartments suffered moderate water and smoke damage.
Roughly 15 people were displaced or affected by the fire, and the American Red Cross is assisting them with temporary shelter.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
