A family is suing a Harrison County, Kentucky nursing home, claiming neglect cost an 84-year-old man his leg.
A lawsuit claims the man developed a severe bone infection and bedsores so bad they became infested with maggots. Doctors had to amputate his leg.
His family is suing Edgemont Healthcare in Cynthiana and its owners and administrator, accusing them of chronic understaffing, failure to provide care and not alerting the man’s doctor or family.
State inspectors cited the facility last summer for problems like inadequate staffing, resident injuries and a broken air conditioner that left parts of the building at 90 degrees or hotter for weeks.
The nursing home was fined more than $100,000 and currently has a one-star rating by the federal government.
