An underground gas line caught fire Saturday morning in the Redwood Court area of Hopkinsville.
In a social media post, Hopkinsville EMS reported firefighters were called out around 5:30 a.m. upon arrival, firefighters began working to put out flames that had ignited in and around a tree and a vehicle.
Hopkinsville EMS said attempting to put out the blaze directly could cause a backup of fuel and increase the likelihood of an explosion. Crews remained on the scene for several hours working to maintain residents’ safety and limit exposures.
Officials believe a lightning strike started the fire.
