
A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run involving an e-bike, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Officers responded to a call at around 11:45 p.m. of a collision in the 2100 block of Outer Loop on Sunday, July 5. Louisville Metro Police Department said a man was riding an e-bike on Outer Loop when he was struck by a vehicle that did not stop.
Investigators stated the man was thrown from the e-bike and found on the shoulder of the roadway. A second vehicle also reportedly hit the e-bike in the roadway, but the driver stopped and remained at the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
On Wednesday, July 8, Louisville Metro Police Department announced that 28-year-old Diego E. Garcia Orozco was arrested in connection with the incident.
According to arrest documents, surveillance video captured Garcia striking the man on the bike and remaining stationary for approximately 30 seconds before backing up off the bike and driving away from the scene.
Investigators say that when interviewed, Garcia admitted to not seeing the victim because he did not have any of his car lights on and that he left the scene without checking on them.
Garcia is charged with manslaughter, failure to render aid, tampering with physical evidence, failure to maintain required insurance, no operator’s license and no registration.
His bond has been set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 16.
