Three people are in custody after police say they stole merchandise from stores in eastern Jefferson County.
Caloria Waters, 27, is facing numerous charges including theft by unlawful taking and engaging in organized crime.
According to Lyndon Police, officers were dispatched to the Walgreens location in the 9400 block of Shelbyville Road Monday night after Waters and two others, identified as 34-year-old Elijah Waters and 32-year-old Kaylyn Cashaw, were reportedly shoplifting from the store.
Officers obtained surveillance video from the business, and they say it showed all three putting items inside a basket and left the store without paying for it. Walgreens said the merchandise had a value of more than $750.
Officers located the suspects inside a vehicle outside of the store as they were preparing to leave the area.
They tried to remove Caloria Waters from the driver’s seat, but an officer noticed her reaching toward the passenger side floorboard area. She was told to get out of the vehicle and show her hands, and that is when police found a handgun inside of a bag.
Officers discovered the stolen merchandise along with items taken from CVS and Dollar General stores in Jeffersontown.
Lyndon Police said most of the merchandise had been returned to their rightful owners.
Caloria Waters is also facing possession of a gun by a convicted felon, no registration plates, no registration receipt, obscuring the identity of a machine $10,000 or more, improper use of a temporary tag and prescription controlled substance not properly contained.
Elijah Waters and Kaylyn Cashaw are facing theft by unlawful taking and engaging in organized crime.
All three are currently booked at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
